LAFC vs. San Jose Earthquakes

FT: 5-1

The Los Angeles Football Club made their comeback in a stunning fashion with a 5-1 victory at the Banc of California Stadium on Wednesday night after previously dropping two consecutive matches.

Wow. @LAFC put up 🖐️ goals. 3 points secured! — Major League Soccer (@MLS) September 3, 2020

Diego Rossi, Bradley Wright-Phillips, Jose Cifuentes, and Danny Musovski bagged the night’s five goals. For Cifuentes and Musovski, these would be their first MLS goals.

With high energy and a slight roster change that saw Pablo Sisniega in goal the Black-and-Gold quickly set the tone of the match with Rossi tapping in the first of the night in the 21st minute.

Wright-Philips kicked off the second half beating the Quakes’ Tanner Beason to slip one past Daniel Vega and double the home side’s tally – scoring his 112th MLS career goal (regular season).

Brian Rodriguez came close to adding himself to the growing list of scoring players after firing a shot off a free kick. But San Jose’s Daniel Vega pushed his shot over the net.

The Black-and-Gold continued to control the match holding 48.5% of possession, with Cifuentes and Rossi adding to the home side’s total in quick succession, scoring in the 64th and 69th minutes.

Musovski made an immediate impact coming straight off the bench to put the proverbial cherry on top in the 83rd, scoring the fifth and final goal for the home side.

San Jose spoiled what would have been the Black-and-Gold’s second shutout of the season, with Cristian Espinoza sending in the service from outside the box to Danny Hoesen who then tapped it over Sisniega to pull one back for the Quakes during stoppage time.

Up next, the Black-and-Gold will prepare to make yet another ‘trek’ (you know LA traffic…) to face the LA Galaxy for another installment of El Trafico on Sunday, September 6.
